The 25th Annual Children’s Book Illustrators Exhibition

2014 will mark the 25th year of the Annual Children’s Book Illustrators Exhibit held at the Sun Gallery, Hayward California. This year, along with traditional media and alternative press, the exhibition will also include ‘zines and comic books as examples of work that tie images closely with literature. Also featured, for the first time, will be a book that as been illustrated by children so that visitors can see how participation in reading and the visual arts is a collaborative exploration as children grow up around an increasingly diverse environment of language and visual arts.

A book signing by the artists in the exhibition will be held in conjunction with the Reception for the Artists, on March 16th, 1:00pm – 4:00pm. This is always a fun event with the artists present to answer questions and sign copies of their books, available for sale throughout the course of the exhibition.

PLUGO

Patrick Lugo completed his formal education at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, studying directly under the legendary Carmine Infantino. His artwork was first published, soon after, in the pages of New York indie publisher Double Edge Comics. He is currently Senior Designer for Kung Fu Tai Chi magazine who published his long running comic series TIGER'S TALE. Over the past decade his illustrations have also appeared on CD and Album covers both for U.S. and European musicians. He also paints for fun as a part of a San Francisco Bay area arts collective and completed his first mural on the island of Puerto Rico. His first Children's Picture Book LITTLE MONK AND THE MANTIS was released in May 2012 and has been awarded both the Book of the Year Honor from the prestigious Gellett Burgess Center for Children's Literature as well as 2012 Preferred Choice Award from CREATIVE CHILD MAGAZINE.
