I’m proud to have around 50 illustrations featured in Taschen’s new book of fairy tales published this month. The book also features the work of artists such as Arthur Rackah, Kay Nielsen, Walter Crane and Herbert Leupin.

Laura Barrett

I’m a freelance illustrator based in South East London and I specialise in creating intricate and decorative silhouette illustrations.

Since graduating from University of the Arts London (Camberwell) in 2007 I’ve been working with a variety of international clients within the fields of publishing, editorial, packaging, advertising and animation.

My work is often narrative based and inspired by the darker side of folk and fairytales, as well as traditional Scherenschnitte (paper cutting). I like to explore these themes through the use of silhouettes, which I create by drawing with a graphics tablet in Adobe Illustrator. Working digitally allows me a great deal of flexibility whilst retaining a hand crafted quality. I love to work in striking black and white, though I’m just as comfortable using colour when a project calls for it.

My clients include Ted Baker, Taschen, Toni&Guy, Marchesa, Yardley London, The Guardian, Woman’s Weekly, Hachette, Oneworld Publications, Heidelberg, British Heart Foundation, Brighton Festival, The Wellcome Trust

Laura’s work has been featured in Digital Arts, MacUser magazine and The Mix Future Interiors.
