Peter Campofiori – Children’s book cover illustration

This is an illustration for a book publisher in Italy. The title of the book (Odore di Guai) is put in later by the design team. Tight pencil sketches were scanned, then colored and rendered in Photoshop CS3. It was a rush project, which sometimes are the best, as there is no time to agonize over things.

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a cartoon illustrator.

To me… illustrating cartoons was almost better than being an usher at the local theater and watching Star Wars 5 times a day.

Even before Yahoo offered the Aspiring Cartoon Illustrators group
…I knew I wanted to be a part of them.

They weren't like fine art illustrators.
They drew things however they wanted.
They drew bugs with personality (oh no its the Raid)
Tigers that ate cereal (and thought it was GREAT! )

When they drew city skylines with lines that weren't parallel…
…nobody ever complained about there perspective.

Drawing funny characters was where I knew I belonged.
To me, it meant being able to justify a yearly 15k student loan…
…at an art school full of real artists.
