LCS INTERVIEW :: Pietari Posti

When did you first decide that you were going to become an illustrator?

While I was studying graphic design I also did few editorial illustration jobs. After school I started to receive more and more commissions, and I thought why not? And I have always loved drawing. So, I guess it was quite easy decision.

Where does your strong simplistic style originate form?

Because I’m lazy… Well, not just. I don’t really know, but I have always loved simplicity in visual arts and strong contrasts in colours. I guess it lets the viewer jump into the image and take their time imagining. Does that make any sense..?

Apart from illustration what other things are you into?

Movies, photography and comics! I love comics, that is where it all started, the whole drawing thing.

Who are your favourite artists/illustrators alive today?

I love the fact that now a days lots of illustrators/artists are keeping blogs. It lets you take a peek how other artists go through the whole process. There are a lot of illustrators whose work I love. To name few Justin Wood, Mr. Ed, Klaus Haapaniemi, Tim Biskup, Mike Giant, Tatsuro Kiuchi, Tom Gauld, Josh Cochran, Brian Cronin, Cassaramona, Coop, nemiri, Rednose ..Ah there is so many more and everybody are equally good in different ways.

Is there any other medium you would like to try your hand at?

Would be nice to do sculpting with different material. I have done it in school and I like it, but you need to have lots patience and big studio to mess around. Also video editing and animation interests me.

Are you involved in any collaborative projects at the moment and is there anyone you would like to work with?

I did couple T-shirts for Poketo. They are available online now at Also later this year they will come up with few my wallet designs. When illustrating I like to go solo, but it would be nice to work with a talented writer to create a children’s book.

What’s next in the pipeline for Pietari Posti?

I would like to get involved more in the world of illustrating books. So, all the publishers out there reading this give me call or drop me an email.
