Poise, Posture & Profanity

Heimer Proffer

Artchitecture Gallery is proud to present:

An exhibition by Andrea Heimer and Arabella Proffer
Poise, Posture, and Profanity
April 24 – May 17, 2009

Opening reception 7-10 pm Friday, April 24, 2009

Poise, Posture, and Profanity is a dual exhibit featuring the works of Arabella Proffer and Andrea Heimer. Despite their different styles and technique, both artists share a love of portraiture with loose references to history and pop culture. Their common themes of feminine power, fashion, beauty and design can at times even contain a hint of the sinister. Arabella will be debuting a new series of her fashionable punk and gothic aristocrats, this time consisting of miniatures. Andrea will be exhibiting recent works from her Voyeur and Pulp series; voyeuristic watercolors painted from the perspective of a camera lens aimed at her subjects and bright, dramatic acrylics of red-lipped women inspired by the pages of romance comics.

Arabella

I’m an artist and co-founder of Elephant Stone Records. My loose narrative themes and interests revolve around a fascination with punk fashion; aristocrats; Elizabethan portraiture; Ian Schrager hotels; vapid socialites; eastern European cultures and rock n roll lifestyles.

I attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena before receiving a BFA from California Institute of the Arts, and have participated in solo and group exhibitions around the US and in Europe.

I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, primarily before moving to Laguna Beach (luckily I went to high school there before that stupid reality show). I bummed around the California desert, was a Hollywood scenester, and was even in Boston for a second. Now I live in Cleveland, which is actually quite nice.
