An exciting opportunity has arisen for an illustrator or cartoonist to produce temporary work for the public areas of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The initial project will be a commission for illustrations in the hospital’s lifts and key atrium areas, with the possibility of a future residency within clinical areas. It is anticipated that the approach will include drawing and text, the purpose being to convey messages but above all raise spirits.
The project will be a vital part of Chelsea and Westminster Health Charity’s arts in health programme, based at the Hospital. Our work utilises both visual and performing arts to enhance patient experience and have an impact on clinical outcomes. The integration of the arts into healthcare has been shown to reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure and reduce the need for pain medication. We manage a museum-accredited art collection on display throughout the wards, clinics and public areas of the Hospital and are embarking on an exciting new programme of acquisitions and commissions throughout the building.
The artist’s fee will be £2,000 for the commission. Please submit examples of your work, artist’s statement and approach as to how you would develop the project to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm on August 22nd. For more information about the project, you can contact us for an informal chat on 020 3315 6617
