Social Round Up: Space, Negan and a Jake Parker video interview

We saw this impressive work by Chris Hall for Ideas Fortress over on Hire an Illustrator the other week. Even though it’s for kids we might have to check out the Space app to see what we’re missing out on when it gets released. The artwork looks great!

Mark Reihill posted up a Walking Dead work in progress to accompany the roughest cliffhanger in history! Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s portrayal of Negan is spot on if you’ve not seen it yet, but you know the comics. This season of WD is one of the most intense so far, it’s such an exciting series. The official art and fan art is alway fantastic to see and I think the quality relates to how passionate people are about the show. Plus zombie are cool!

We’ve been a big of Jake Parker's work for a longtime now and there’s a great little Jason Brusker Youtube interview with him on YouTube, that we also thought was worth sharing. Check it out…

An LCS interview with Paul Shipper

Darren Di Lieto: Paul Shipper is an artist inspired by old school theatrical posters and the movies of the 70’s and 80’s… The hair rock years! Paul’s illustrations have been praised by the likes of J.J. Abrams, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, Tom Hanks, Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski’s. Now we are delighted to ask him anything we want!

Darren Di Lieto: I would like to welcome illustrator and artist Paul Kidby to the LCS. He’s best known for his work on the ‘Discworld’ book jackets for Sir Terry Pratchett and has been designing them since 2002. You may have seen some of his Ook-tastic work recently if you followed the ‘Books about Town’ Riverside Trail in London in 2014. Paul is also a talented sculptor who produces beautiful and collectable bronze sculptures.

YES! DUMBO mural

Darren Di Lieto: I would like to welcome Japanese illustrator Yuko Shimizu to the LCS. Yuko is an instructor at the School of Visual Arts and based in New York City with a studio in midtown Manhattan. Yuko has a wonderfully unique style that has deep roots in tradition and culture while always feeling fresh and new. Over the last 10 years her work has been seen on Gap T-shirts, Pepsi cans, VISA billboards, Microsoft and Target ads, as well as on the book covers of Penguin, Scholastic, DC Comics, along with the pages of NY Times, Time, Rolling Stone and The New Yorker to name a few.

When Zombies, Screenwriters and Illustrators Collide

Screenwriters John August (Big Fish) and Craig Mazin (The Hangover) record a great weekly podcast that all creative types could benefit from. They end the shows with each sharing a ‘one cool thing’ they’ve recently discovered. I drew this 2 min scene of their on air quirky relationship.
