Darren and Jane Di Lieto, brainiacs and work-horses behind the LCS and Hire an Illustrator! recently gave their valuable time and expertise to several illustration students at the Savannah College of Art and Design, via Skype. The classes and their professor, Violet Lemay pulled together this “Thank You” image for the couple—for all you do, D & J, THANK YOU!

Violet Lemay made this image Tuesday afternoon on a very quick turn-around for Jason Chiu at the Globe and Mail. The illustration, published on Friday, March 18, accompanies a Facts and Arguments essay written by a woman whose father recovered from a brain aneurysm. She likens him to a cat with nine lives; no matter how many times he falls, he always seems to land on his feet.

Violet Lemay made this lovely image to accompany an article in The Baltimore Sun, about marriage proposals. Apparently, the proposal is becoming almost as big an event the wedding itself. With art direction expertly provided by Jay Judge, the illustration was published on January 30, in the newspaper’s supplemental magazine.

Violet Lemay was quite busy before the holidays, happy to have received a handful of cover assignments. The first, seen here on the left, is for Food Service and Hospitality Magazine (art direction by David Heath). The image on the right, directed by Caroline Bishop, was created for The Presbyterian Record. Both are January editions, out this week. Happy New Year, from violetlemay.com!

Over the summer I made illustrations for a cool activity book, My Foodie ABC Placemats: A hearty serving of doodles, drawings, and other fun foodie activities. An advance copy of the book (written by Puck, published by DuoPress) arrived today, and I couldn’t be happier! Wow, the book looks amazing. It’s such a sweet and clever project, the brainchild of Mauricio Velázquez De León, owner of DuoPress. Each page, which tears off to become a placemat, contains a letter of the alphabet and the corresponding artwork from the original book, My Foodie ABC, as well as fun activities related to the food depicted. Coming soon to bookstores everywhere!
