Just in time for Halloween, we’re letting the yokai out to wander the streets and haunt the cafes of Azabujuban. Yokai are uniquely creepy, quirky beasts that roam the Japanese nights, frightening, tricking, and occasionally falling in love with us mere mortals.

I’m thrilled to announce my first solo show, Night of the Yokai – Patrick Gannon. Created entirely in cut-paper artwork, this show invites all to explore a modern take on the haunted (and often hilarious) myths and stories of Japan.

Entangled in the vines and bamboo of the shadowy forest, no other animal has quite the same combination of feline grace and stealthy, coiled threat as the tiger. Part ofThe Way of Flow exhibition, featuring the artwork of Patrick Gannon, running from December 4, 2009 – January 2, 2010 at C.A.V.E. Gallery, Venice, CA.

What do sympathetic living rocks and giant shinto sharks have in common?

They are both available right now as gicleé prints by Patrick Gannon. “We All Laugh Together” and “The Golden Sea, It Has Teeth”, originally cobbled together from cut and torn paper on wood, can be found in Patrick’s print shop.

“Oh, The Things You Say On a Winter’s Day” is one of eight new cut paper pieces by Patrick Gannon, now in Gallery 1988 San Francisco’s “Battle Royal” group show.

“Battle royal (plural battles royal) traditionally refers to a fight involving three or more combatants that is fought until only one fighter remains standing.” Featuring the incredible and varied work of ten up-and-coming artists: Julian Callos, Anthony Clarkson, Joshua Clay, Patrick Gannon, Gene Guynn, Walt Hall, Martin Hsu, Aaron Jasinski, Marcus Schafer and Jeremy Tinder.

…But that’s such a lackluster description of what’s really going down at myplasticheartnyc. The group includes painters, custom toy builders, sculptors, one paper slicer, and a few people whose works defy my meager ability to describe them. Rest assured, this show is not one to miss.

100 artists take aim at TV’s guiltiest pleasures. And boy, let me tell you, there are a lot of them. Guilty pleasures, I mean. Well, artists too, obviously.

Let’s face it, this is an unfathomably awesome theme for an art show. Not just TV, but bad TV. Bad TV that we love in spite of, or maybe because of its badness. The list of artists for this show is mindboggling. The host is Dennis “Mr. Belding” Haskins of “Saved By The Bell” infamy. Plus, it turns out that this show marks the 5th anniversary of the opening of Gallery 1988. The only non-awesome part is that, once again I am here in Tokyo while my artwork goes to more parties than me.
